LISTEN TO YOUR COMPUTER'S AUDIO ON YOUR HOME STEREO SYSTEM

You have a booming home stereo system but your computer audio system is weak. Why not use your home stereo for your computer audio?

You can easilly get this job done for $8 or less. Look on the back of your stereo system. You should have some Auxiliary RCA Inputs. You know the little round circle connections about the size as the the tip of your pinky. Usually one is red in and one is white. Or in some cases one is yellow and one is white. 'INPUT". usually labeled as AUX IN or ACC INPUT (accessory) or Video Sound In or PHONO IN. On my friends expensive home stereo system he has his on video sound in. On the back of my particular cheap stereo the plugs are labeled "Video In. Now what you are going to need is a cord that plugs into those RCA jacks and then to your computer where your computer speakers are normally plugged in. This cord is $8.

This cord is for sale at you local neighborhood radio shack store.
Tell them you want Catalog # 42-2551.
6-Ft. Gold Series Phono-to-1/8" Y-Adapter

HEY! I thought you said this was a Do it Yourself Website. Well it is. perhaps you have a couple RCA cords laying around as well as a 1/8" Stereo Plug. The stereo plug is of course used on alot of smaller headphones, computer speakers and other things. If you have these items you could surely cut them off, strip all the wires and connect them together.

The 1/8th inch stereo plug will have 3 wires. Red, White and Shield. Red is right speaker, White is Left Speaker and Shield(the braid) is common ground for both channels. Now your RCA plug wires will be simular, each having say a red or white wire and a shield. Strip all of these wires. Now connect all three shields together. These are the braids with no insulation that surround the colored wires. Connect all of these these braids together. Now you have four remaining wires. Left and right from the computer cord and left and right on the rca cord to the stereo. Now connect one wire on one rca to one wire on the cord to computer. Now connect the other wire from the RCA to the remaining wire on the cord to the computer. The are once again right and left speaker channels. If the wires you have are different color match them up, otherwise don't worry about it. If the left and right balance controls are wrong all you have to do is switch them around. Meaning if you turn the balance left and it goes to right speaker, unplug the rca plugs from the back of the stereo and reverse them. Plug the left into right and the right into the left.

This wonderful stereo 1/4 inch to stereo RCA jacks cable will have many uses. You could plug your walkman, mp3 or other accessories into your home stereo. Plug in Police Scanners to your home stereo. Cb radios etc. The sky is the limit. You can even plug the rca plugs directly into the EQ to equalize your audio. Don't forget about processors and such.
